Denpasar (Atnews) - President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, received a special invitation from Prime Minister (PM) of India, Narendra Modi, to enhance bilateral relations between Indonesia and India.

The state visit is the first one for President Prabowo Subianto to India as the Guest of Honor at the celebration of Republic Day of India held on January 24-26, 2025.

It also marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and India. This visit is held to strengthen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership having been established by both countries since 2018.

President Prabowo will be welcomed in a ceremony by President Droupadi Murmu at the Indian Presidential Palace, Rashtrapati Bhavan. On January 25, 2025, the president will continue his agenda by holding several bilateral meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House.

In addition, the president is also scheduled to visit Raj Ghat to pay his respects to Mahatma Gandhi.

President Prabowo and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will witness the exchange of several Memorandums of Understanding between the two governments in various fields, including health, culture, education, maritime security and traditional medicine with the aim of strengthening cooperation between the two countries.

On January 26, 2025, President Prabowo will attend the 76th Republic Day celebrations of India as the guest of honor. He will be the fourth president from Indonesia to be invited as a guest of honor along with historic performances, including a procession and a marching band of 352 Indonesian military personnel participating in the Republic Day parade.

The visit of Prabowo to India confirms the strengthening and expansion of strategic cooperation between Indonesia and India, especially in the economic, defense and maritime sectors since the two countries have agreed to become comprehensive strategic partners in 2018.

Previously, President Joko Widodo was also the guest of honor at the 69th Republic Day commemoration in New Delhi, India, in 2018, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) in 2011 and President Sukarno at that time was also a guest for the commemoration of the First Republic Day in 1950.

According to global traveler, Putu Suasta, who is also an alumni of Gadjah Mada University (UGM) and Cornell University, Indonesia and India have had a cooperative relationship having been established since President Soekarno.

The selection of Indonesian leaders was not a coincidence because a main guest from a friendly country, India, was chosen based on the strategic interests of economic and political cooperation as well as relations between the two countries.

Suasta further stated that the growth of India continues to increase. Moreover, according to Forbes, India is included in the top five GDP in the world.

Based on world GDP in accordance with data sourcing from the IMF as of January 10, 2025, the top five consists of the US (USD 30.34 trillion), China (USD 19.53 trillion), Germany (USD 4.92 trillion), Japan (USD 4.39 trillion), and India (USD 4.27 trillion).

In addition, India is also one of the founders of BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, and China). Meanwhile, officially, the Brazilian government announced Indonesia as a new member of BRICS, Monday, January 6, 2025. These BRICS countries contribute more than 40 percent of the population of the world and a quarter of the global economy.

In addition to geopolitics, the focus of this group also includes economic cooperation and increasing multilateral trade and development.

The alliance also operates based on consensus. All BRICS countries are part of the Group of 20 (G20) which consists of major economic countries.

To that end, Indonesia and India can build closer relations in the fields of culture, education, health, economy, security and defense.

“Considering that the cultural relations between India and Indonesia have been established for more than 5,000 years,” added Putu Suasta in Denpasar, Tuesday (Jan 21).
