Denpasar, 24/6 (Atnews)— Chairman of Nawa Cita of Indonesia Tourism (NCPI), Dr. I Gusti Kade Sutawa, requested the seriousness of the government to work together in formulating waste issues, especially for plastic waste.
“Garbage has become the scourge of Indonesia highlighted by world, especially plastic waste that can tarnish the image of Bali tourism,” said Kade Sutawa who is also Chairman of the Bali Tourism Community Alliance (AMPB).
This was confirmed in the workshop on Management of Marine Coastal Plastic Waste with the theme of Bali Clean of Plastic Waste at Source and to the Sea held in the office of Bali governor on Thursday (Jun. 20).
He gave an example the area of Kuta Beach in Badung district where every year it receives drifting garbage. The seriousness should be considered by all parties, especially the government as regulator of regulations, considering that tourism is vulnerable to environmental and security issues.
These efforts are required in maintaining the quality and sustainability of Bali tourism having been known to the world. On that account, Bali is dependent on the tourism sector. Data in 2018 indicate there are 6,127,437 foreign tourists making a visit to the island.
Plastic waste is not only on land but also filling up rivers and oceans having caused problems for years, such as clogging waterways, increasing the risk of flooding and resulting in very serious environmental problems.
However, he continuously appreciated to the attention of government starting from President Jokowi, the governor of Bali, regents / mayor to administrative and customary village apparatuses. Likewise, the Minister of Environment and Forestry (LHK), Siti Nurbaya, together with the participants of the 4th Inter-State Meeting in coordinating the maritime affairs of East Asian Nations (COB-SEA) inaugurated the Ecoriparian of the Badung River in Denpasar.
Installation of the Nanobubble Generator is meant to clear and reduce the odor of the Badung River from sediment. The effort is to support the spirit of handling marine waste brought by President Jokowi in the ASEAN Summit in Bangkok.
Meanwhile, Secretary of Bali Regional Government, Dewa Made Indra, expected the public to reduce the use of inorganic materials.
In supporting the realization of clean and beautiful Bali, a Gubernatorial Regulation (Pergub) was then issued Number 97 concerning Reduction of Plastic Waste. “Vivacity of the community is very positive in supporting the movement. So, it is hoped to have a positive impact and can reduce the circulation of plastic waste,” he said.
Even though there is no ban on the use of plastic, the Gubernatorial Regulation is effective in suppressing the circulation of plastic waste. For this reason, he hoped that business opportunities can be responded quickly by the community in replacing the function of plastic. (ART/02)
