To Develop Bananas, Bali Visits GGF Global Farming Company in Lampung

Lampung, 20/11 (Atnews) - Assistant III in charge of General Administration of the Regional Government of Bali Provincial Government, I Wayan Suarjana, visited the Great Giant Food (GGF) in Lampung to explore the development of its agriculture.

“It is an effort to follow up on cooperation in developing banana and pineapple farming with the Government of Bali with an area of 114 hectares in Pekutatan, Negara,” said Suarjana in Lampung, Wednesday (Nov. 20).

To start the collaboration, it will be prepared 50 hectares of land to be planted with banana which later will empower local farmers. This has been doing in the GGF. Aside from having its own workers, the company also involves local farmers including their land.

Moreover, Lampung farmers themselves are interested in collaborating with the company because their land optimization is more optimal and their income increases. Meanwhile, GGF Operational Managing Director, I Wayan Ardana, added that his company develops an integrated food and beverage industry that applies the concept of sustainable agriculture and animal husbandry.

The farming implements Sustainable Farming, Good Farming Practices, Animal Welfare, Good Manufacturing Practices, Food Safety, Halal and Traceability.

In addition, GGF also develops a CSV (Corporate Shared Value) approach in developing the community around our workplace as a form of social responsibility of the company.

The products becoming the basis for the development of GGF include fruits, beef, chicken, and fresh milk. Processed pineapple products (canned pineapple and juice concentrate) are produced from around 34,000 hectares of pineapple plantations in Lampung spreading over four districts with 24,000 workers and have gone worldwide. Besides, the products have been exported to more than 60 countries and is the number 1 largest in the world.

One of the best products owned by GGF having penetrated international market is pineapple where GGF is the third largest pineapple producer in the world cultivating 32,000 hectares of land in Lampung, and 19,000 hectares of them are dedicated to growing Cayenne Pineapple.

Every year, GGF produces more than 650,000 tons of pineapple and exports 13,000 containers of canned pineapple to more than 56 countries. In addition to processed fruits, GGF also has premium fresh fruit products under the Sunpride brand. Sunpride is locally produced with high quality and has been recognized internationally.

The majority of Sunpride products are tropical fruits such as pineapple, guava, banana, papaya, orange and melon. GGF already has a trusted distribution-supplier-retailer network throughout the archipelago.

This distribution has reached around 10 major cities and 120 district cities through 8 branch offices and 63 sub-distributors. The local fruit production has been spread in several countries such as Japan, the Middle East, South Korea and China with brands such as Sunpride, Bali Fresh and Oriji. (ART/02)
